Atradius Collections Brazil maintains a professional collection process, focusing on the relationship between client and debtor at all times. Our team of collection specialists carry out the collection process in-house, contacting both verbally and in writing with a proactive and objective approach, in order to reduce the risk to our customers, adhering to federal and state laws.

Atradius Collections Brazil charges debtors interest as determined by the legal interest rate allowed in Brazil, applicable in amounts due and in domestic cases; however, for cases abroad, it is very complex to charge interest, because the debtor must submit proof to the Central Bank, unless Atradius Collections has official customer documents such as invoices, debit notes, etc. to support the transaction. In accordance with the prevailing law, the interest allowed is 1% per month. From a cultural point of view, Brazilian debtors are willing to pay interest.

Debt collection costs during the amicable process may be charged by determination of each state where the debtor is located, in accordance with federal and state laws. At the legal collection stage, the amounts to be charged can differ depending on the agreement formalised by the attorney.

The Debt Collections Handbook presents a snapshot of Brazil's local economic situation and covers the following topics:

  • Limitation periods
  • Legal procedures and Lawsuits
  • Insolvency proceedings
  • Timeframe and outcome
